A picture is worth a thousand words, but a picture of the beach may be worth more than that.
Dr. Marc Berman, who studies the relationship between our environment and our neuroprocessing, has found that there are benefits to some of our cognitive abilities when we take a break from work and take a stroll in nature. He also found that just looking at a photo of nature in a quiet room can give you a cognitive boost, albeit a smaller one than exposure to the real deal.
If yoga boosts relaxation (I’ll have to blog about those studies next) and nature provides us with cognitive benefits (even when the nature is in picture form), a photo of you and your group doing yoga on the beach would be double bonus!
When you’re back at home, daydreaming about next year’s beach vacation, you could gaze at a beautiful photo of that time when you and your friends and family enjoyed a little peace together at the beach. It would be a photo of your “happy place” with you and your peeps doing something that makes you happy (or maybe makes you giggle).
The beach yoga photos on my website were taken by my uber-talented pal Lauren Nassetta of studio nassetta photography & design. I dare you to not gush over her beautiful photo gallery. She doesn’t have a gallery of beach yoga photos … yet.
